Baby Preparations: Getting Organized: New Dad stuff…

Some of you are probably wondering, (if anyone reads these articles other than me,) where has David gone?  Well, two things…

Dragon Boat races were last weekend with my company.  I volunteered so that I would be perceived as a team player and a company man, etc. etc.  Kim also did a similar race with a company that she used to work for years ago, and seemed to have a great time, so I thought, Bonus!

No such luck.  I got there at 0730hrs, which means I had to leave the house at 0600hrs and wake up at around 0530hrs.  I never have, or probably ever will be a morning person.  So, this wasn’t a great start to begin with.  Nobody knows who’s racing in which heat, where they are sitting or even whether or not they had been to any practices.  On top of that, it was completely disorganized, complete lack of any preparation.  I have never really been proud of the company since the merger, but this brought it to an all-time low.  We were situated between a Do-it-yourself supply company, (you could call it a “Depot” even…) and a conglomerate that produces everything from pens to baby carriages to anodized cookware.  Both of them had cool matching shirts for the race, little handouts, things for the kids to do, and food/beverages for the participants.  The lowest point of course was when, after I just got back from racing I was looking for something to drink.  There were a couple of warm 2L bottles of assorted soft drinks, (no ice that I saw,) some chips, (that I brought,) and some energy bars.  All in all, not a pretty sight.  Then I look over at the conglomerate’s stash, and they have a couple of huge coolers filled to the brim with ice-cold cases of soft drinks, and a regular feast of foodstuff…  One of the other employees sees me looking and says, “ummm, I can give you something if you want.”

“No thanks, I’m just heading out.”  And I took off.  I know that I was supposed to stay around for the last race, but they didn’t have room for me in the first five heats, they could get by without me on the last one.

Anywho, that was the weekend.  And now what have I been doing?  Getting acquainted with some of my New Dad books.  The one that I have been reading for the past few days is a Crash Course for new Dads, and the other one is “Hit the ground crawling.”

So far, they have been pretty good reads without all of the “tongue in cheek” humor that the other expectant father books have been shoveling at me.  These guys really seem to want to prepare men to becoming good fathers.  So far I like it.  Once I have a little more read and start to apply the teachings / exercises I will blog about them more.

Until then, I’m going to get some sleep.

PS. Did you see the finale of Rizzoli and Isles?  Totally saw that coming, but still liked it.  Way hardcore.
