Merry Christmas from the SCN.

Blaze was born on the coldest day of the year, and if that wasn’t enough, yesterday was the first “White Christmas” in Georgia in a little over 130 years. We were actually worried about getting stuck there last night. We made it home fine, but more because we left before it started to freeze than my driving ability.

But one thing that really helped a lot of families with Preemies in the SCU was the “Parents Partnered for Preemies” support group had a potluck Christmas late lunch for everyone with kids in the NICU/SCN.

These guys really embody the Christmas spirit. At a time when most families in there are really at their wits end, it was nice to see people who had been through it, and see their kids that are now happy and healthy, even though they had a stay in the NICU/SCU. It really shows that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

They also provide crocheted hats and onesies for the kids, something that really appealed to me. (In all actuality, I don’t think that they are for the kids, but for the parents…trying to get them into the Christmas spirit.) I asked them if they took donations of hats, (and they do,) and asked if there was any particular pattern that they use, and they said no, just make sure that the cap can fit on the kid’s head. (I’ll look online and see if I can find anything, if not, I’ll check out the pattern books at Micheal’s and JoAnn Frabrics, alter them a bit so as not to violate copywrite, and post them here. I’m looking into putting up a donation button for them, but so far they haven’t gotten back to me with a paypal account to work with.

Well, Kim and I have to get around, since we’re planning on looking for a car today, (if we can get dug out of this winter wonderland,)/this week because we’ve come to the realization that our 2 door Honda Civic and two-seater Mazda truck might not be conducive to hauling Blaze around. I’ll research buying a used car and post the checklist… Until then, I hope that you had a Merry Christmas!
